SOLD! A.82. Very nice WWI German memorial placate named to ULRICH MEYER who was killed in action 23 February 1915. The placket consists of a bronze raised medallion 2 and 3/8" in diameter mounted on a gray brown marble tablet 4+' by 2 7/8" by 5/8 inches. The medallion has a side full body portrait of a running soldier about to throw a stick grenade. There is a raised sentence "IHREN 1914 - 16 GEFALLENEN ZUR EHRE UND ZUM GEDENKEN D. TECHN. HOCHSCHULE IN BERLIN. The medallion has the maker's hall mark HOSAEUS. This is a very nice personal piece of WWI memorabilia in very good condition.......................................$125.SOLD!

A.93. Very nice framed (8" by 8") WWI German Army brass cross grave marker (4 3/8" by 4 3/8") . The cross has the date 1914 and W for Wilhelm and is in the form of a WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class. Usually they were nailed on a wooden cross for unknown soldiers. The cross is mounted on a burgundy red velvet cloth backing and framed in a period style gold front and black edge frame. The effect is stunning. A rare find...................................$365.

A.105. Very nice World War II era military toy 88mm artillery cannon. The real thing was used by Luftwaffe Flak regiments and by the Wehrmacht as anti-tank guns. This toy cannon was brought back from Germany in 1948 by a returning U.S. Army soldier serving during the occupation in the American Zone. The cannon is hall marked HAUSSER Elastolin. It is 7 1/2" long by 4 1/8" high by 2 5/8" wide at the maximum. It is made of tin and aluminum and appears to have all of it's parts at the breech. It is a lovely period military toy..................................$265.

A.106. Very nice Pak 37 WW II German artillery toy. The 9 1/2" long, 3 1/3" high, 3 3/4" wide cannon is entirely made of metal and is hall marked HAUSSER GERMANY. It has retained the majority of it's paint scheme, is dent and crack free. At the breech area there is some easily removable surface rust. The photographs show it in tow mode. It needs a new and appreciate home.........................$225.

A.107.Very large World War II oil-on-canvas painting of the German military and Military police headquarter for the Dijon, France area of occupied France. The gilt framed painting measures 28" wide by 22" high. Stenciled on the back is Feld Kommandantur Dijon 1942 GERHARD FISCHER BERLIN. Gerhard Fischer was a German Army Panzer (Tanker) Ace who was a Knights Cross winner. In 1944 he was assigned to the Jagdpanzer IV Pz Jager Batt. 5, 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking outside Warsaw, Poland to halt the Russian attempts to break through to the Polish capitol.
During the occupation of France he was the regional Field Commander for German Forces stationed in and about the Dijon, occupied France area. This painting was done of his Headquarter which was formerly a French regional Palais and made into a German Army headquarters and kaserne (barracks). It was presented to him by his officer staff and command as a memento of his service time at Dijon.................................$1,025.

SOLD! A.100. Very nice heavy oak wood frame and molded plaster British WWI (1914 - 1918) memorial plaque commemorating the death of Pte. Arthur Hargroves, 6th West Yorks, aged 23 years, who died of wounds received in action in France on 25 September 1918. The plaques' frame dimensions are 17 1/4" wide by 21 1/4" high by 1 1/2" depth. Inserted in the frame is a molded plaster WWI casting (12 3/4" wide by 16 1/2" high) tiltled The Glorius Dead and the quote The Path of Duty Was the Way to Glory. The castings' design includes a "window" for Pte. Hargrove's families' prayer card. The ornate military motif(design) includes a front relief statute of a sailor on the left and below the prayer card with a soldier relief opposite on the right side. On the top of the casting is the Angel of Victorious Death. On the frame top is another wood piece sculptured to hold the "Death Penny" medallion issued to Pte. Hargroves' family This heavy medal medallion is 4 1/2' in diameter. The design includes the British Lion, a standing "VIctoria" the words HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOR and his name in raised relief in an oblong block. The overall ensemble has a very nice age patina. This wall mounting is in very good condition and needs an appreciative home............................$435.SOLD!

MISCELLANEOUS

A.8. GERMAN/Norwegian Meissen Porcelain 2" diameter Plaquette dated 9 APRIL 1940. The obverse side has a high profile of a Viking ship under sail with a black swastika on the sail. Around the edge is the wording "DENN WIR FAHREN GEGEN ENGLAND" which means Then we sail against England. France had already fallen and the Germans and their allies were building up for the invasion of England. On the reverse side is a magnificent standing eagle with the words "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DEN FELDZUG IN NORWEGEN". This means to honor those who campaigned in Norway. This is a magnificent piece, quite rare..................................................................$265.

US Civil War

A.104. Very nice turn of the 20th Century cast bronze cannon and caisson (limber). The cannon is ten inches (10") long and is mounted on a two spoke wheel gun carriage that is 13 3/4" long. The overall length is 16". The wheels are 5 1/2" high. This is a very nice model of a Civil War field gun and has an age and verdigris green patina that usually forms on copper, brass or bronze surfaces when exposed to the atmosphere for a long time.............................................................$235.
